DVDFab, famous for their extensive catalog of video rippers and converters, now have presented their own media player. It may look just like any other video player, but it is not. It supports nearly all the most widely used video file codecs, and it can play any DVD and Blu-ray disc. And “any” means exactly that – any disc regardless of its protection code (including the new BD+) and region locking. Coming from DVDFab, one could not expect less.

Apart from playing back any disc with a video on it, it can also play your video folders, ISO files (from DVD or Blu-ray), and a wide selection of video files (3GP, AVI, FLV, M2TS, MKV, MPG, RMVB, to name but a few). It comes with all the technology you need to make the most of your 1080p high-definition screen and your HD sound system, as it supports DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby True HD.

The program will automatically recognize the type of disc or ISO file you are intending to watch, and – if needed, and if your Internet connection is active – it will look for the right decryption key and for whatever information it may grab from the Net regarding the film you are about to enjoy. To make your watching experience more pleasurable and personal, you may want to take a short look at the range of settings provided. The video settings offer you the possibility of cropping all black bars, changing the view mode and the pixel ratio, or calibrating your screen for the best quality possible. The audio levels let you – among other things – set the audio offset, define the audio output, the configuration of the speakers, or the output audio device to be used. Finally, I think it is worth noting the wide support for subtitle tracks, both for those coming with your movie and those stored in external files. You can change the font, size, color, and style and to define where on the screen you want them.

The player allows you to play all your video files for free (including ISO files and video folders), though to watch your DVDs and Blu-ray discs with it you will have to buy a license. Either way, DVDFab Media Player will not work unless you register as a member with their site first.
